Salt Lake City to Boise - 558 miles

Quite a long day today, but had a fabulous time & made a few visits to places & museums off the main road.

We left Salt Lake City & all the traffic & headed towards Cheyenne. Once again it was thru' mountainous areas, big winding roads, superb on a bike!, but cold. Ended up having to stop & put on our overjackets - both of us were way too cold.

Could see a lot of areas (& incredibly flash homes) just out of Salt Lake City that are obviously used by those who choose to ski. Just prior to Ogden there was a beautiful lake that wound around, so pretty and peaceful.

We also watched a very long train (it seemed to go on forever) and actually throughout the day probably saw 6-7 trains with endless numbers of carriages.

At the Wyoming border we zapped across the road used by trucks to take a quick photo - hence the reason Ken is still on the bike. Wyoming means long flat plains, & that's a pretty good description for a good part of it.

We turned off the main highway to go to Kemmerer, we had seen that there was a museum there, & it was fascinating. One of the best we have seen. (The scary thing is that there were so many items on display that both Ken & I are very familiar with).

We continued on, thru Cokeville and then on to the next state - Idaho. The state has lots of rolling plains, but also mountain areas. At Montipelier we refuelled, had a quick lunch, & on our way out of town saw a large carving of wagon, oxen, and the people (see photo), this was The National Oregon/California Trail Centre. It looked too good to ignore, so off the bike again, & in we went. Fabulous! They also had a quilting display, so took some additional photo's for Mum.

Off again, thru the towns of Bennington, Georgetown & Hot Springs. Lots of things to photograph, but no time and too much traffic to allow it easily.

The USA has an amazing road system, & when road works are being done, as a rule it is not a mile or two, it is anything from 15-20 miles, with very little inconvenience to motorists. This was again the case today, lots of duplicate highways being made, or bitumen being relaid. We (Australia) could learn a lot.

The weather was kind, although the temp got to 100F (showed about 4 degrees higher on the town sign) but it felt quite cool, not really a problem at all. There was also cloud cover on & off, this made a big difference, & makes great patterns on the hills.

Once we passed by the towns of Twin Falls & American Falls (they were off the highway) we continued till we reached Boise, around about 6pm. Again we did a quick tour of the city, then decided we had had enough & headed for the nearest accomodation which turned out to be Holiday Inn. Very nice, had a lovely meal, & the room is great.

Leaving Salt Lake City

Enjoy that warmth while you're there, it's a tad chilly here at times. Anyhow, will head off, so bye for now, and love to you both.
